Dusty Saxton

Independent (Brandon Ryder)

After exploding onto the scene as the drummer for modern rock band Ember in 2007, Dusty Saxton has become one of the busiest touring and session drummers in Texas. Making a name for himself nationwide, he is currently on tour with country artist Brandon Rhyder. Dusty has performed with artists ranging from indie rockers Language Room, to alternative rock band, Alpha Rev. Expanding his influence into the country scene, Dusty has become one of Texas´ most well known live and studio drummers.

Dusty got his first set of drumsticks when he was just 2 years old. If you ask him when he started playing drums, he´ll simply tell you he doesn´t remember. He played on his high school´s drumline and later taught at schools as a drumline instructor. He is a huge fan and follower of DCI. He spent time in college studying upright and electric bass and has occasionally lent a hand on guitar on a few sessions, but his main instrument first and foremost has always been drums. Dusty grew up in small town Lorena, Texas and moved to Austin to pursue his professional drummer career at age 21 replying to a craigslist ad for a drummer position for Ember. With Ember, Dusty toured the US and Europe opening for bands such as Theory of a Deadman, Hinder, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Stonesour, Blue October, and Black Stone Cherry and recorded on the band´s only nationally distributed album ´Embrace´ released by EMI/VSR in April 2010. He can also be seen in Ember´s music video for their song ´Embrace´. After Ember, Dusty spent time as a fill in and session drummer and became one of the most in-demand drummers in Austin. During SXSW 2011, Dusty performed with Hollywood Records artist, Alpha Rev and very soon after received an opportunity to tour with country artist Brandon Rhyder.

Dusty enjoys touring and recording all types of music, whether its country, rock, pop, metal, jazz, or R&B. His musical tastes are as broad as his influences which range from Vinnie Colaiuta and Buddy Rich, to Abe Cunningham and Jimmy ´The Rev´ Sullivan, to Chris Dave and Questlove. He loves being on the road touring and will often travel to watch and hang out on other tours on his days off. Dusty played over 270 shows in 2010 with various artists and stays on the road enough to make a permanent address obsolete. It is evident through his playing and presence on stage that Dusty loves what he does and those that have shared the stage with him will tell you his style and personality are one of a kind. With as much momentum as Dusty has behind him on stage and in the studio we can all expect to see and hear much more from him in the years to come.
