Abbie Finn is a drummer and composer hailing from the North-East of England. Her work has been described as ‘Exceptional British Jazz’ by Jazz FM and as a ‘crucial member of the thriving North-East jazz scene.’

She has released four of her own albums to date, the latest of which was funded by the Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation and launched at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, London. Her main band, The Abbie Finn Trio, have performed across the UK at many venues and festivals including Manchester Jazz Festival, Hexham Jazz Festival, The Cockpit in London, Band on the Wall, Jazz at the Lescar in Sheffield, Newcastle Jazz Festival and more.

Alongside her trio, she also runs a hardbop quintet called The Finntet. She regularly performs with the Harry Keeble Quartet, Alice Grace Quartet, Stu Collingwood Organ Trio, Dean Stockdale Trio and more. She is a drummer for artists visiting the area including Vasilis Xenopoulos, Alan Barnes, Andrea Vicari, Greg Abate, Art Themen and more. Abbie also performed at Jazz Café Posk in London as part of the Women in Jazz Media gig ‘Maxine Gordon’s Sophisticated Giants’ alongside Tony Kofi, Emma Rawicz and more, celebrating Maxine’s extensive work and the music of her late husband Dexter Gordon. She was also invited to perform at the 2023 UK Drum Show in Liverpool, where she played some tunes alongside her husband; Tenor Saxophonist Harry Keeble. 

Abbie studied Jazz drums under Sebastiaan De Krom at Leeds Conservatoire (formerly college of music), gaining a 1st Class Degree with honours. Whilst studying her final year, she put together a successful big band which she directed and also arranged music for. She then received a Master’s degree from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, studying with Gene Calderazzo and Asaf Sirkis. Abbie also performed with various National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) bands during this time as well as others.

Alongside her work as a jazz drummer, Abbie performed live on stage in 2018 in the Jamie Lloyd Company production of ‘Pinter Four: Moonlight/Night School’ as part of the prestigious Pinter at the Pinter season on London’s West End. She performed alongside Jessica Barden, Robert Glenister, Peter Polycarpou, Janie Dee, Brid Brennan, Al Weaver, Dwane Walcott and Isis Hainsworth. In 2021 she took up the role of on-stage drummer on the Kenny Wax Production of ‘Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World’, the debut UK tour. This empowering stage show tells the stories of fantastic women of the past based on the book by Kate Pankhurst.
