Leo Freire (Independent/Wheatus)
Leo Freire is a Brazilian born New York based musician, having accumulated extensive experience as a drummer, backing vocalist, and music director. Some of the artists he has worked and performed with include Wheatus (global multi-platinum hit with "Teenage Dirtbag"), Andrew W.K., Darryl “DMC” McDaniels (Run DMC), Flatbush Zombies (Top 10 Billboard 200), Viktor Király (Hungary No. 2 Top 40), Fly By Midnight (No. 6 Spotify Global Viral 50), and more.
Recent tours have included the 39 date 2017 Wheatus UK/ European tour, which included 7 countries and ended with a performance at the Isle of Wight Festival. Other touring highlights have included drumming on Wheatus' 2016 18 date Arena tour supporting UK group Busted, which featured sold-out performances at some of the world's biggest selling venues such as the O2 Arena London, Glasgow SSE Hydro, Manchester Arena, and Wembley Arena.
Leo was also a member of the 42 date 2015 Wheatus 15th anniversary European tour, playing drums for both headlining and support artists Wheatus and Mike Doughty, headlining festivals in Germany and Ireland, while also appearing on the Ray D'Arcy show, featured live on Ireland's premiere TV network RTÉ One (which was broadcasted to 500,000 viewers).
Some highlights of 2018 have included being selected as a recording member as the only drummer to appear on the Flatbush Zombies album release “Vacation in Hell" - which reached no. 9 on the Billboard US Hip Hop/R&B Albums charts, and was accompanied by a sold-out North American Theatre tour.
His work was also prominently featured as a composer and performer on the original soundtrack for the 2017 feature documentary "Black and White Stripes: The Juventus Story" (No. 1 in the Italian Box Office). He participated as a guest performer in the film's South American premiere in Rio de Janeiro, being featured in the national Brazilian TV channel Globo and newspaper 'O Globo'. The film further embarked on an international world tour of its release in cities such as London, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Dubai, and Beijing.
Furthermore, Leo was a featured drummer on the MTV/ VH1/ CMT 2013 O Music Awards Drumathon, alongside Andrew W.K, sharing the bill with drummers including ?uestlove (The Roots), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and Marky Ramone (The Ramones), amongst others.
