Scott Wilson (Sankorfa)
Scott is an Artist in Residence at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he has a particular responsibility for coaching percussion ensembles. Born in Australia, he moved to the United Kingdom to study at the Guildhall School and, later, at Royal Holloway, University of London. Scott studied drum kit, percussion, conducting, piano, theory, and voice with some of the world’s leading teachers and performers.
Scott is a founding member of the percussion group Sankorfa. This group performs their music in clubs and at festivals and released their first CD ‘in between instruments’ in 2009. Sankorfa’s members are fluent improvisers and their abilities as multi-instrumentalists allow for unique and innovative performances. They are also involved in education, recently hosting an event for 300 young percussionists from London.
Scott performs regularly as a percussionist, drummer, and conductor in a variety of groups and ensembles throughout the U.K. He is equally at home improvising at the kit or the vibraphone, composing music for Sankorfa, performing virtuosic contemporary music, or directing orchestras and chamber ensembles.
